Dano Brown, a mad scientist of sorts, "frankensteins" together toys that have garnered viral success and big paydays. Below, Brown discusses his creative process, the business of selling his art and some of the pieces that have really been a hit with collectors. Dano Brown: There's a term that toy guys will know, but not the common person, called "kitbashing" -- basically just a fancy word for "frankensteining." That was the first time I thought, "Oh, I think I'm a real artist now!" A lot of the process that I think people don't think about is the research that goes into it before I even glue or cut or paint anything.
