The BJP on Friday chose its Gujarat unit chief Vijay Rupani as the State’s next Chief Minister. The announcement came as a surprise as till about 2.30 p.m. Mr. Patel looked set to take over as the next Chief Minister. Nitin Patel to be Deputy Chief Minister. Mr. Rupani began his political innings as a student activist attached to ABVP, the student wing of RSS. But the the turnaround came at the meeting attended by office bearers, central observers, outgoing Chief Minister Anandiben Patel and BJP national president Amit Shah.
