Photo: PTINew Delhi: Vijay Keshav Gokhale, currently secretary, economic relations in the Indian foreign ministry, who played a key role in resolving the 73-day-long Dokalam standoff between India and China, will take charge as the new foreign secretary on Monday. The standoff ended on 28 August and Gokhale moved to New Delhi to take charge as secretary, economic relations. As secretary (economic relations), Gokhale played a key role in planning visits like the one of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in mid-January. Outgoing foreign secretary Jaishankar was appointed to the post in January 2015 for a two-year term, just days before his retirement.
