Customs officers in the northern province of Quang Ninh said Thursday they will destroy around half a ton each of cats and chickens they seized from two trucks and which they suspected were smuggled from China. Neither driver could produce any documents for the consignments, and the officers thought they were smuggled in to supply restaurants. The animals, which were to be sold to restaurants in northern Vietnam, were culled. They found the cats at around midnight Tuesday and the chickens the next morning. In January last year a huge cat smuggling case shocked the nation after the Hanoi police stopped a truck carrying three tons of cats, all alive, from China.
