Vietnam expects further progress in 6th round of reciprocal tariff talks with US

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan (C) speaks at the ministry’s regular press briefing in Hanoi, January 29, 2026. “We hope the sixth round of negotiations will continue to yield positive results,” he said, adding that Vietnam is approaching the talks with an emphasis on tangible outcomes and consensus building with the U.S. side. The ministry previously reported that the fifth round of in-person negotiations was held in Washington, D.C. from November 12 to 14, 2025. Vietnam and the U.S. launched their first round of reciprocal tariff negotiations in late April 2025 after the U.S. administration announced a 46-percent reciprocal tariff on Vietnamese imports earlier that month as part of its new global tariff policy. On August 1, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order revising reciprocal tariff rates for 69 countries and territories listed in Annex I, including Vietnam, cutting the tariff on Vietnamese imports from 46 percent to 20 percent.
