Darfur, Baghdad, Chernobyl, Damascus, the dark side of the moon: all of these locations might have proved less vexing than Shanghai. Whoever decided to take the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show to Shanghai is now probably strapping on angel wings and trying to fly far, far away. Did Victoria’s Secret really think it could strut into Shanghai and be granted some kind of supermodel immunity when it comes to China’s long-standing policy of imposing travel bans on perceived foreign agitators? At this point, it might be easier if the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show unfolds on an airline carrier in international waters beyond the South China Sea. It is the good people at Victoria’s Secret who’ve been caught with their pants down.
