COLOURFUL illustrations on the back panels of two bus stops in Penang are grabbing the attention of passers-by as Thaipusam fervour heats up. Another illustration on the Indian community shows a milkman selling cow’s milk to a child while a third shows an Indian sundry shop. Pulau Tikus assemblyman Yap Soo Huey said the illustrations at the bus stops are part of the Community Stories project under the ‘Connecting with Our Heritage’ initiative run by her office. “After the interviews, we worked together to bring out the culture and spirit of the communities in the illustrations. Yap said the illustrations at the other bus stops depicted the lives of the Eurasian, Chinese, Malay, and Thai and Burmese communities.
