Venezuelan authorities arrested a prominent opposition politician on Wednesday as President Nicolás Maduro strikes back against critics a week after the opposition failed to spark a military uprising. Edgar Zambrano, the vice president of the National Assembly and a close aide of opposition leader Juan Guaidó, was detained by Venezuela’s intelligence service Sebin. He was taken to Helicoide prison in Caracas days after a top prosecutor filed criminal charges against him, including treason, conspiracy and insurrection.
