Venezuela’s self-declared interim President Juan Guaido has revealed “clandestine meetings’’ between opposition figures and representatives of the armed forces in a bid to oust President Nicolas Maduro, local media reported on Thursday. “We have had clandestine meetings with members of the armed forces and the security forces. “The military’s withdrawal of support from Mr. Maduro is crucial to enabling a change in government. The 35-year-old speaker of Venezuela’s opposition-controlled National Assembly declared himself interim president during nationwide protests against Maduro’s rule recently. US President Donald Trump has recognised Guaido in the role, however, the EU has yet to do so.
