VARIETY PUZZLE — Today’s constructor, Daniel Raymon, has provided us with several cryptic crossword puzzles and a dozen standard grids. This is his first Puns and Anagrams; this variety puzzle solves like a hybrid between cryptics and straightforward puzzles, and I always recommend them to anyone who does the daily crossword and wants to branch out into cryptic clues. I think today’s puzzle is tricky. As far as the puns went, there was a nice variety, and nothing unconquerable — having all the crosses helped, of course. I really liked 25A, which was one of those “Why didn’t I ever think of that?” entries — ALOHA, which, along with A HOLA, make for two international salutations.
