GLAAD has announced the nominees for its 34th annual GLAAD Media Awards, with Variety earning two nods for outstanding print article (Angelique Jackson’s piece on Aunjanue Ellis) and magazine overall coverage. This year’s media awards are presented by Gilead Sciences, Inc. and Ketel One Family Made Vodka. GLAAD reported 140 cases of anti-LGBTQ protests and threats aimed at drag events in the year 2022. 295 works were nominated in 33 different categories, including the newly added categories of outstanding podcast and live TV journalism — segment or special. The Barbara Gittings Award for Excellent LGBTQ Media will go to the Los Angeles Blade and The Washington Blade, recognizing their contributions to LGBTQ media’s development.
