When you watch a futuristic TV show like “Battlestar Galactica” or “Falling Skies,” it was probably filmed in Vancouver. Living on North America’s favorite sci-fi set makes the future seem nearer, and the fantastical seem plausible. It’s a future ruled by corporations from faceless, imposing towers; a future in which the technologies we create turn against us; a future in which genetic tinkering redefines the very meaning of human. But the fact that North America has pinned its fictional future on Vancouver suggests a more hopeful possibility.
