Cassava flour, dried crayfish, plantains, Shito hot pepper sauce and palm oil are some of the grocery items that the African-Caribbean Arts and Cultural Society provides to low-income newcomers of African descent living in southeastern Vancouver Island through its La Teranga Food Baskets initiative. "COVID-19 has made finding a lot of these foods a bit more challenging, and they are a lot more expensive," said Boma Brown, manager of the food baskets program, to Kathryn Marlow, host of CBC's All Points West. Pulchérie Mboussi, executive director of African-Caribbean Arts and Cultural Society, is holding a crowdfunding campaign to extend La Teranga Food Baskets program beyond November. La Teranga Food Baskets program is funded by the Canadian government via Canadian Red Cross and will last until November.
