The Earthquake Commission (EQC) has begun assessing claims for customers whose properties suffered land damage in the magnitude 7.8 earthquake on November 14, 2016. "We are working together with private insurers in information sharing and to assess properties in areas where significant land damage is known to have occurred." They would carry identification and might be accompanied by geotechnical engineers or private insurers. "EQC estimates it could receive up to 3500 land claims although the final number is not yet known at this stage.
