Vaccines short, Mumbai residents head to centres in rural pockets

(Representational)To get around the shortage of vaccine doses in Mumbai, many are booking slots at inoculation centres in rural pockets of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, fuelling anger among local residents. Shendrun PHC is about 13 km from Shahapur town on the Shahapur Murbad road. Amit Raghav (40), a resident of Thane city, was one of the many city residents who had lined up at the centre. Local health officials acknowledged the problem of several city residents driving to rural vaccine centres to get inoculated. The story was the same in Murbad, where a vaccination centre has been opened in the government guesthouse, about 30 km from Shahapur town.
