NewsThe case in which former DIG Vaas Gunawardene, his son Nipuna Gunawardene and his wife stand accused of abducting a student of the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) was taken up in court today. High Court Judge Padmini N. Ranawaka set trial for February 6, 7 and 8, 2017. DIG Vaas Gunawardene’s wife and five other suspects were released on a cash bail of Rs. 50, 000each and two sureties of 5 lakhs. DIG Vaas Gunawardene and his son Ravindu were sentenced to death in November 2015 for the murder of a businessman Mohamad Shiyam and are currently serving term.
