VC clarifies on teachers’ appointments

Radhakrishnan has said that approval for teachers’ appointments to affiliated private aided colleges has been put on hold as the matter is under the consideration of the High Court. Explaining the circumstances that led to the prevailing situation concerning teacher appointments, Dr. Radhakrishnan said a directive issued by the University Grants Commission on September 18, 2010, had laid down norms for appointments to universities and colleges across the country. A few decisions taken by the universities, in relaxation of UGC norms, were declared invalid by the Supreme Court on July 15, 2015 and the High Court on February 22, 2016. It was decided by the Syndicate to approve appointments, made under liberal norms, till the High Court judgment. A revision petition submitted by the teacher was also dismissed and the case has been temporarily stayed by the Supreme Court.
