In October 2023, the PGMOL admitted that match officials incorrectly ruled out Luis Diaz's goal for Liverpool in their 2-1 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur. In a statement the PGMOL said: "The goal by Luis Diaz was disallowed for offside by the on-field team of match officials. This was a clear and obvious factual error and should have resulted in the goal being awarded through VAR intervention. A Liverpool statement in the aftermath said "sporting integrity has been undermined".
