Opposition's vice-presidential election nominee Gopalkrishna Gandhi while speaking to India Today's Rajdeep Sardesai, said that he would never seek vote in the name of Mahatma Gandhi. One should neither presume victory nor fear defeat based on the outcome. A contest should not be entered into with the fear of defeat", the vice-presidential nominee added. On being asked whether he would want the elected college of voters to choose on the basis of their conscience (conscience vote) or a party vote, Gopalkrishna Gandhi said, "I am not seeking anything that is not already envisioned in the Constitution. "If I ask anyone for vote for me because I am a descendant of Gandhi, I do not deserve that vote", he added.
