V K Singh to take stock of ground situation

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had said on Monday that all the affected Indian workers will be brought back to India. At present, 7,700 affected Indian workers are living in 20 camps. Ahead of MoS External Affairs V K Singh’s visit to Saudi Arabia, the Indian mission there is gathering details of all those workers who have been laid off by their employers. Singh, who is leaving for Jeddah Tuesday night, will assess the situation and finalise arrangements to bring back those wanting to return home. Thousands of Indians have lost their jobs due to slowdown in the Saudi economy, triggered by low oil prices and cut in spending by the Saudi government.
