I grew up in a small, New England town where I was one of a handful of black kids. That’s an impression that’s left on millions of young women of color. So that feeling that my creator could hear that, and wanted to give that space to be said, was just incredibly satisfying. You started out in the theater and will return to the New York stage after six years in “Toni Stone” at the Roundabout next spring. So [to play Toni Stone] was exciting for me.
