“We’ve made such enormous progress with research,” Jon Huntsman Sr. said in an interview in his photo-festooned office at the Huntsman Cancer Foundation in Salt Lake City. The new building doubles the Huntsman Cancer Institute’s research capacity --which, says Huntsman Sr., will help move toward eradicating the disease. Over the decades since the Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) was launched, it’s made a name for itself as a top notch cancer center. In 2015, the National Cancer Institute named HCI a Comprehensive Cancer Center, the highest designation, and one shared by the likes of Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City, MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Son Peter serves both as CEO of Huntsman Corp. and CEO of the Huntsman Cancer Foundation; Huntsman Sr.’s 8 other children are involved in some way or another in the foundation as well.
