Uruguay fair showcases traditional foods of Spain, France, Japan, Venezuela

Traditional foods from Spain, France, Japan and Venezuela were on display Saturday at a gastronomy fair in the Uruguayan capital's Old Town, an event aimed at generating more awareness of that neighborhood's charm. Spanish paella, French goat cheese, Japanese sushi, Venezuelan arepas and Uruguayan dulce de leche were showcased at the event, aimed at attracting the general public to that district of the city. "We want to bring the family out to enjoy the day. For them to come with their children and sample the different (foods)," Pablo Migliorini, a member of the "Old Town and Cuisine" project's organizing committee and representative of the "Volveras a mi" (You'll Come Back) shop, which specializes in the production of chocolates, muffins, cupcakes and other sweets, told EFE. He said the idea was to hold a few more editions as a way to foster renewed appreciation for the Old Town, the colonial heart of Montevideo.
