HBOMax version 5.30.1 released June 5 and replaced the native tvOS video player with a custom-made player that’s causing issues for many Apple TV users. You can also manually download the update by going to Settings > Apps, then select the HBOMax update. There are still more bugs to fixInstalling the update appears to reinstate proper playback controls, but it doesn’t fix everything.
