Upazila polls: Candidates with posters in indigenous languages


Candidates print election campaign posters in Marma language for the upcoming 2nd phase of the upazila parishad polls in Bandarban Dhaka TribuneThe Election Commission will hold the second phase of the upazila parishad election on MondayIndigenous candidates contesting in the 2nd phase of the upcoming upazila polls are printing their election posters in both Bangla and their native languages in Bandarban upazilas. In Bandarban hill district, a total of 11 indigenous communities speaking 11 different languages are living alongside Bangalis. Jana Samhati Samity (JSS) nominated chairman candidate from Ruma upazila, Ongthoaiching, said: "Posters have been created in different languages so that they can be easily understood by voters." In Rowangchhari upazila, JSS candidate Kebamong Marma was elected chairman uncontested, while Awami League candidate Chohaimong Marma was elected for the male vice chairman post. In Bandarban Sadar upazila, independent candidate Abdul Kuddus, and Awami League candidate AKM Jahangir, are vying for the chairman post.
