Awami League candidates will face off against each other for the chairman post in six upazilas, and the vice chairman post in two upazilas. However, the ruling party candidates are encouraging BNP and Jamaat leaders to support Awami League in their campaign. According to official sources, there are 2,41,476 voters in Dumuria, 2,09,338 voters in Paikgachha, 1,56,903 voters in Koyra, and 1,14,239 voters in Digholia upazila. Calling the current upazila elections a joke, District BNP President Shafikul Islam said: “There is no sign of a participatory election. Awami League candidates are contesting each other and there is no participation from BNP.”
