Tangail map| Dhaka TribuneLocal admin imposed the curfew to avert clashes between the camps of AL, independent candidatesThe local administration in Tangail’s Ghatail upazila imposed a curfew under Section 144 in the area on Friday to avert possible untoward situation ahead of the next phase of the ongoing upazila parishad elections. The curfew came as the local election candidate of the ruling Awami League and an independent candidate both arranged to hold election rally at the same venue in the upazila, sources said. Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, Ghatail Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Kamrul Hasan said: “Two upazila parishad election candidates arranged to hold their campaign meetings at 3pm today [on Friday] at the same venue. Later, the Awami League candidate cancelled its meeting. However, followers of the independent candidate moved their meeting in front of the local community clinic – outside of the jurisdiction of the curfew.
