Unventilated generator to blame for carbon monoxide gassing five people, report findsMIKE WATSON/STUFF Five people were hospitalised on July 1 with carbon monoxide poisoning after a generator ran through the night. (File photo)A landlord has been largely blamed for the carbon monoxide gas exposure that hospitalised five people in central New Plymouth. On July 1 Mediaworks and Public Trust staff who occupy a Currie St building, which is owned by KD Holdings Limited, were taken to hospital with carbon monoxide poisoning after an unventilated generator ran through the night. Several hours after they were evacuated, Public Trust staff on the ground floor of the building smelt an odour and were told to evacuate and phone Fire and Emergency New Zealand. Consequently, three Public Trust workers spent time in hospital on oxygen and were discharged later that day.
