Through these middle months of the year we are spoiled with tennis viewing opportunities as we work through the three major Northern Hemisphere Slams. Tennis needs all of these players, and they are just as valuable as each other. I have often heard players say that their opposition didn’t play ‘‘real tennis’’ when they had been frustrated by a retriever or slicer in particular. Twenty Slam titles later, I have egg on my face and am the first to admit that there is certainly more than one way to strike a ball effectively. But here we have a wonderful player with more French Open titles than just about every other player on the planet has in Slam titles in total.
