Unlawful sacking leads to $30,000 bill for firm

A Dunedin engineering firm has been stung with a bill for more than $30,000 after unlawfully sacking a worker. The relationship between him and Mr Anderson broke down after an accident on February 7 last year. Mr Anderson was cleaning out the drum of a concrete mixer and preparing the compressed-air tool he was going to use. Mr Anderson was taken to hospital where he was treated for the injury and signed off work until February 19. He noted, despite a suggestion other employees saw Mr Anderson acting out, there were no witness statements from them.
