The University of Otago is planning a full-day full-scale emergency exercise next month, a year after a shooting scare emptied the institution. The November 15 exercise will involve 70 police, St John and university staff, and UniCrew volunteers. Mr Ferguson said as a large organisation, the university was "very aware that we are not immune to potential disasters and incidents". "The more practice we can do, both within the university and with other emergency responders, the better,’’ he said. "Also, the exercise can reduce anxiety and fear for those who may be faced with working in a real situation."
