University of Texas Survey Finds High Rate of Reported Rapes at Flagship School

The rate of reported assaults at UT Austin, the system’s flagship school, was about twice as high as other UT schools, the survey revealed. The UT survey included students from eight academic institutions and five health institutions that enroll mostly graduate and professional students. At the academic institutions, 10% of female undergraduate students and 4% of male undergraduate students reported being raped. At the eight academic institutions, 72% of those who said they were victims of assault also said they didn’t tell anyone. The most vulnerable group was LGBTQ+, of whom 43% of undergraduate and 41% of graduate students reported being harassed.
