University of San Diego basketball coach arrested on domestic violence charges

(Young Kwak/AP)Lamont Smith, the head men’s basketball coach at the University of San Diego, was arrested on three domestic violence charges Sunday at Oakland International Airport as his team prepared to fly home from the Toreros’ regular season finale at the University of San Francisco. According to ABC 10 News in San Diego, the charges stem from a disturbance at the team hotel in San Francisco after the game Saturday night. The woman told San Francisco Police Department officers that Smith had told her he was in town “traveling for business,” NBC 7 in San Diego reported. San Diego is 18-12 this season and opens West Coast Conference tournament play Saturday afternoon against BYU in Las Vegas.
