A security guard at the University of Maryland was shot early Tuesday near its College Park campus during a possible commercial armed robbery, university police said. Officials said the security guard was shot in the arm and taken to an area hospital, where he is in critical condition. The incident happened around 2 a.m. near the University College campus, which is near the large campus for mostly undergraduate students at the University of Maryland College Park. UMUC has a hotel and conference center, which is used for meetings and some of its graduate and night classes. He said the security guard was not armed at the time of the incident.
