WINNIPEG — The University of Manitoba and the union representing nearly 1,200 professors, instructors and librarians have reached a tentative four-year settlement. Janet Morrill, president of the University of Manitoba Faculty Association, says the union approached the university last month to try to get an expedited deal. “Interference from the government significantly hampered our negotiations,” Morrill said. University president David Barnard tweeted that he was “very happy” to announce the agreement that would run to 2021. The university’s students union had been pushing for a deal to avoid a repeat of last fall’s strike.
