In 2002, the University of Guelph and Humber College joined forces to form the University of Guelph-Humber, with the goal of producing graduates who have both the theoretical knowledge acquired through a university education and the practical skills gained through a college education. Students earn two credentials concurrently—an honours degree from Guelph and a diploma from Humber—in four years of full-time study at one location. The average class size is 49 (the largest lecture hall fits 125), so professors know each student from the get-go. “Careers today are complex—you need soft skills and hands-on experience,” said vice-provost John Walsh. All students are required to get hands-on experience through a placement or internship, with hours ranging from 100 to more than 850, depending on the program.
