University of Alberta student facing charges after bomb threats allegedly posted to social media

EDMONTON—A University of Alberta student is facing charges in connection with a post on a local social media app that allegedly threatened to “blow up” two university buildings. According to police, U of A’s protective services contacted police on April 19 to report a message that had been posted to an app called Chillabit two days earlier. Police say the post threatened to blow up two university buildings on a “future date,” possibly April 30. He was arrested on campus without incident on April 20 and a search warrant was executed at his residence.
