University and college students being asked to fill in survey on sexual violence and harassment

“We have to change the climate on campuses.”“It’s unacceptable that one in five students will experience some form of sexual violence or harassment on campus,” Hunter, minister of advanced education and skills development, told the Star. College and university students are being asked to share their stories about sexual violence and harassment to help shape post-secondary policies, says Minister Mitzie Hunter. The survey will help post-secondary institutions “build awareness, improve their policies and processes, and improve their services and supports for students and survivors of sexual violence,” the ministry said in a statement. In 2014, a Star series highlighted sexual assaults on campus, finding that just nine across the country had policies in place. “Its important that students have a voice in the policies ... (and that) those policies have to be reflective of our students’ voices and concerns around this issue.
