Universities Minister on bid to ‘decolonise’ courses


Some elite universities have begun discussions about ‘decolonising’ their courses by adding more ethnic minority voices in addition to the traditional European authors and theorists. The university made it clear that no white authors would be phased out – it would simply mean more authors being added. In a wide-ranging speech in Westminster yesterday, Mr Gyimah also promised students the OfS will ensure they will get better value-for-money from universities. Mr Gyimah said increasing access for disadvantaged groups – including white working class boys – was a key priority of his. Asked about the new trend of universities giving out high numbers of unconditional offers to secure students, Mr Gyimah warned it could lead to a slipping of standards.
