Universal Health Insurance approves key governance, financial, and technical measures

The Universal Health Insurance Authority (UHIA) held its 100th board meeting, during which members approved a series of regulatory, financial, and technical measures aimed at strengthening institutional governance, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of Egypt’s health insurance system. At the meeting, the board reviewed and approved the Authority’s first Anti-Abuse, Anti-Fraud, and Anti-Manipulation Policy, designed to safeguard financial resources and ensure efficient spending amid the growing scale of health service delivery and the multiplicity of stakeholders. A new cooperation agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO) Egypt Office was also endorsed to support capacity-building, knowledge exchange, and service quality improvements within the health insurance system. To enhance technical capabilities, the board approved a cooperation protocol with the Ministry of Finance, utilising technical support under the financing agreement between the French Development Agency and Egypt. The centennial board meeting underscores UHIA’s commitment to building an integrated health system based on sound governance, financial sustainability, digital transformation, and institutional cooperation, all aimed at delivering fair and sustainable healthcare coverage for all citizens.
