The sub-Saharan Africa economy is projected to contract by 1.6 per cent in 2020 and grow by 4.1 per cent in 2021. World trade volume (goods and services) are projected to contract by 11 per cent in 2020 and rebound to 8.4 per cent in 2021. In 2018, 91 per cent of Comesa exports were destined for outside markets. Comesa exports mainly primary products accounting for about 60 per cent of total exports. In 2018, Comesa top import origin markets were EU, China, US, intra-Comesa, India, SA and rest of the world.
