United Way of Peel Region, launching its 2016 campaign on Friday morning in Mississauga, announced its goal is to raise $12.3 million before the end of the year. The charity says it aims to reach 200,000 people through initiatives supported by this year’s fundraising effort. “I do believe very strongly in the work that the organization does, the reach that it has and the positive impact it can have on people in the community,” said Kris Smith, this year’s campaign chair and an executive at Suncor Energy Inc. The charity says it wants to help those in the region who are struggling financially to support themselves and their families. Julia Robinson, development coordinator at Interim Place, an organization in the region that helps support and advocate for women and children facing abuse, was at the launch this morning.
