United And Southwest Face Biggest Challenges As Hurricane Harvey Floods Houston

Amidst the chaos wrought by Hurricane Harvey this week, commercial operations at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental and Hobby airports have been frozen. George Bush closed in short order on Monday. At George Bush Intercontinental, United Airlines is the primary carrier, serving hundreds of destinations; the smaller Houston Hobby airport is also a critical main hub for Southwest Airlines, which has its headquarters nearby. Shares in United Airlines closed at 62.88 on Wednesday, up from $62.34 and just less than 1% since the open on Monday. Southwest airlines was down to $51.46 from $52.17 on Monday, a loss of 1.4%.
