Via email, the railcar manufacturer confirmed a “valued employee of National Steel Car ... tragically lost his life,” but added the circumstances were still under investigation Tuesday. In response, National Steel Car lawyers said via email it is “irresponsible for the union to issue such a statement without any information to support such serious allegations” for matters that remain under investigation. But a Ministry of Labour spokesperson said “multiple proactive inspections” were conducted at National Steel Car last summer. This is the third death since September of 2020 at National Steel Car. National Steel Car faces Occupational Health and Safety Act charges in both cases that remain before the courts.
