The incident took place in Kushtia amid protests by various Islamist organizations across the country over the construction of Bangabandhu's sculpture. Kushtia Superintendent of Police SM Tanvir Arafat said CCTV footage of the scene showed two men vandalizing the sculpture at around 2am. Kushtia Municipality Engineer Rabiul Islam said about 75% of the sculpture construction was completed. Kushtia Municipality Mayor Anwar Ali said, it is assumed that those who are against Awami League and those who can not accept Bangabandhu have caused the incident.
