There are predominantly three styles of gangs – the outlaw motorcycle clubs, the patched street gangs, and the LA-style street gangs. Patched street gangs don’t require members to have motorcycles and wear back patches, which is unique to New Zealand. LA-style street gangs tend not to have patches and identify themselves with tattoos, bandannas and colours.) The Mongrel Mob and Black Power are the two biggest patched street gangs. So it’s important we don't just see gangs and organised crime as being the same thing; they are fundamentally different.
