Under-five mortality reduces 5.5% annually in Bangladesh


Under-five mortality rate in Bangladesh has dropped by an annual 5.5% over the last 16 years till 2016, shows a new report issued by United Nations agencies. The report said in every 1,000 under-five children in Bangladesh, 37 male and 32 female children had died in 2016. Every day in 2016, 15,000 children died before their fifth birthday. Of all those children, 46% died within first 28 days of life, which is up from 41% in 2000. The report, titled ‘Levels and Trends in Child Mortality 2017’, was published on Thursday.
