The Trang governor held a meeting on Thursday to discuss disposal after the accumulated garbage on the 100-rai (16 hectare) landfill plot in Tambon Tapthiang in Mueang district caused a severe foul smell which angered neighbouring residents. When regional administrators were ordered to cease dumping waste at the site, a chain reaction ensued as garbage then accumulated in their own communities. The latest meeting about the crisis was told that 20,000 tonnes of accumulated garbage so far need to be buried as soon as possible. Participants decided that the provincial administration would first try to bury 2,275 tonnes of garbage that had spilled on to a main road. The governor said the provincial administration would hold a public hearing for the public to submit their opinions on a permanent method for garbage disposal.
