Ruto, however, beat Raila at the polls with 7.1 million votes against Raila's 6.9 million. Following the outcome, Atwoli met Ruto at State House on December 1, 2022 a few days after giving signals of working with the Kenya Kwanza government. The Azimio leader holds that an IEBC whistleblower leaked data which showed he won the presidential race with 8.1 million votes against Ruto's 5.9 million. During Labour Day, Atwoli said Raila's quest to evict Ruto out of State House using demonstrations is an impossibility. Raila has cited this an attack on democracy saying it's one of the reasons he called for mass action to compel Ruto to respect democracy in political parties.
