A damaging Nelson house fire that started after cooking was left unattended has prompted a warning from a fire commander. Fire and Emergency area commander Grant Haywood said the fire started after cooking was left unattended, the second incident involving unattended cooking following a house fire in Napier last week. Sasha Kerslake The house fire on Konini St in Nelson which started after unattended cooking caught fire. Konini St neighbour Jenny Davis said at about 9.30pm, she heard “big booms” and “explosions” that sounded like fireworks. Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman Andrew Norris said the house was well involved in fire when two crews from Nelson arrived.
